MUSLIM HOSPITALITY - TURKEY

In muslim countries a visitor knocking on your door is believed to be a gift sent by Allah, and Allah's gift must be honoured.

The more we discovered the picturesque country side, the more we were overwhelmed by the incredible hospitality of the village people. In muslim countries a visitor knocking on your door must be honoured because he is believed to be a gift sent by Allah.

Everywhere we were treated like Royalty. People insisted that we stay the night or at least share a meal or have tea with them. Time and again our arrival in the villages reached the local headlines.  Often, the head of the village had to kick the crowds out of the way... literally.

We were deeply touched by the women's hospitaly as they brought us full breakfasts with coffee, cheese, tomato, bread and milk... and lit the camp fire so that we could eat comfortably.  We even had our shoes polished.

We will never forget their generosity.  Many times we were offered oven fresh bread, homegrown fruit and vegetables for the road.  They didn't have much to live on and I often wondered how such a big sacrifice could be made in our honour.
