HOW ARE WE COPING? - KENYA

I often wished we had more space to live inside the Land Rover.

It was often cold, windy, sometimes it snowed and it rained too often for my taste. Nearly every day something else broke down, the most frequent problems were the electric circuits and the starter, and the satellite connection, and the power outcome of the solar panels, and the whatever, just name it. It was not funny.

I would say we were a few months on the road when we started getting into a routine. In the beginning we needed 2 hours to set-up camp, and now we managed in just 1/2 hour. As a rule we never searched for a camp site. Most places didn't have one anyway and our budget didn't accommodate accommodation. But we kept on misjudging our 'driving' time and somehow the days shortened faster than expected. Too often it was already dark and we still had to find a place to camp.
